Integrating Directional Menus with Direct Manipulation for Fast Human-Computer Interaction

ABSTRACT A very fast, intuitive, and convenient user interface, integrating directional menus and direct manipulation, is presented. A small graphics-editor serves as a realistic test bed to compare the new user interface with two traditional interfaces using pull-down menus and pop-up menus. The statistical analysis shows that the potential gains in operator productivity can be significant.
